Blood Sugar Balance & Juicing - Yes or No

I often get asked what I think about juicing so I thought I would lay it out today. Blood sugar balancing is key for many  health conditions.  In fact, it's the base of what I do for most clients.

Whether you are a type 2 diabetic or have the some of following symptoms:

  • turn into Danny Devito because you get hangry if a meal is postponed or missed.  You get headaches and/or shaky if a meal is missed
  • you crave sweets and/or carry extra weight at your middle

Benefits of Juicing

  • add a ton of extra nutrients 
    • it takes only a few minutes a day to get the equivalent of a couple of pounds of veggies
    • nutrients are absorbed immediately and easily as there is no fiber slowing things down
  • an excellent part of cleansing
    • we live in a toxic world and your liver can only handle so much
    • it's very healthy to give your digestive tract a rest occasionally and juicing does that

How to Juice with a Blood Sugar Imbalance

Most juicing recipes use a lot of beets, carrots, and apples.  These are very high in sugar and can really throw your blood sugars out of whack.  So here are some tips to make sure you keep your blood sugar low.

  • juice more veggies and greens
    • keep the ratio about 80% non-sweet vegetables such as greens, broccoli, celery, cucumber, red peppers, etc..
    • juice your fruit separately and add only the smallest amount that you need
  • everyone can respond differently so the best way to know how your blood sugars are doing is to check your blood sugars.  I teach this in my Beat the Triple F - Flab, Fog, & Fatigue program.  You can find more information here.
  • stay away from carrots as a base
  • use lots of different veggies
  • use stevia to sweeten if it's not sweet enough
  • lemon also helps break down bitterness

Blood Sugar Balancing Juice 

1 cucumber
2 stalks of celery
1 cup of green beans
1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Juice all of the ingredients together. Makes 12 to 16 ounces.

Benefits - it is naturally sweet without fruit!  Green beans and cinnamon help to restore insulin receptors and keep your blood sugar balanced!!  WAHOO!!
